Rules

In reality, basketball involves a group of two teams of player and what the players are required to do is to throw or put the ball into the basket just below the rectangular box. But aside from those throwing or putting the ball into the basket, there are some rules and regulations that you need to follow. In a game of basketball, the court is divided into two main sections.
As you can see above, One of the rules is that if the offensive teams puts the ball in play behind the midcourt line and failed to get the ball over the midcourt line within 8/10 seconds. Then it would be a foul or turnover which means the possession of the ball will be awared to the opposition team.

Simples rules

Fouls

Another set of rules is the fouls and violations. It involves slapping, hitting, holding, punching, smacking, pushing or any unnecessary contact on the player. It is referred to as a personal foul which means that when a player is in the act of shooting while being fouled, gets two free throws if he didn’t score but only one free throw if he scored the basket. Thus, three free throws are awarded provided they are in the act of shooting while they were shooting behind the three point line. And that’s basically what rules of the game is about. If you shoot and score within the two point line you will be awarded two points. If you shoot beyond the two point line, you will be awarded with three points. But another thing is that if the player was fouled but not in the act of shooting. Therefore, the ball will be inbound at the nearest sides, out of bound and the inbounding team has only three/five seconds to get the ball in play. Players with more than six personal fouls are out of the game which means they are no longer able to continue playing the game anymore

Below is the official signals for the various rules:

Other kinds of fouls

There are many other kinds of fouls too. There are a total of 4 quarters in a game in the NBA. For example, if the team in whole commits 6 or more fouls in a quarter then the opposition team player will get two free throws. Charging is another foul that is committed but this time it involves the offensive team. An offensive foul refers to as the attacking player run or pushes or fouls over a defensive player. Therefore the ball will be given to the defensive team. Blocking is another type of foul which mean the offensive player got contact or block by the defensive player, it could be due to blocking or fouling a player on the way to the basket.

Flagrant foul, a violent contact with an opponent. It includes improper behavior like hitting, kicking and punching another player. The number of free throws relies on the official’s decision, depending how serious is the conduct is. Intentional foul is a foul when a player makes contact with another player without any reason. Last foul I like to share is the technical foul, a type of foul that players or coaches can commit. It doesn't involve any player contact or fouling or the ball. But it is due to the fact when a player or coach is unhappy with a decision; they complain and argue with the official. As a result, they are punished therefore a free throw is awarded to the opposition team. But this type foul relies on the official’s decision to call for a technical foul. If you are hit with two technical fouls in a game, you are kicked out of the game.

Violations

Violations There are many kind of violations rules. One of it is the travelling rules, it refers to taking more than a step and half without dribbling the ball is called as a travelling. Another rule is carrying the ball, this occurs only when a player dribbles the ball with his hand too far to the side. Double dribble is another violation that is somehow similar to travelling but this can be caused due to dribbling the ball with both hands on the ball at the same time. Goaltending is another violation. This refers to when a defensive player interferes with a shot when it is on its way down or up into the basket after touching the backboard or while it’s in the cylinder above the rim, it’s a goaltending and the basket counts.

Some examples of fouls/violations:

Offensive foul

Defensive foul

Travelling

Double dribble

Fouling a jump shot

Goal-tending

Personal fouls

Fragrant fouls: In the NBA.
